Our origin
There were seven founders of the Vouga Region Folkloric Group: José Maria Marques (J.M.M), João Ferreira Estima, Carlos de Almeida Vidal, Arlindo Figueiredo da Cruz, Clemente de José de Matos, Abílio de Pinho Carvalhal It is Fausto Henriques da Costa. Among them we highlight J.M.M. for their commitment and dedication, as well as the ethnographic collection initiative carried out by same.
The Folkloric Group of the Vouga Region has its own headquarters, located in the village of Mourisca do Vouga, which, in previous times, was a farm with agricultural exploration. This farm remains to this day a manor house from the end of the 19th century, typical of the period of emigration from Brazil to bourgeois taste. It is a caged construction, with a facade covered in tiles crowned by a plant band of colonnades.
It is located in the center of Portugal, 5 km from Águeda and 20 km from Aveiro, and is a faithful interpreter of dances and songs, which refer to the late 19th century It is beginnings of the 20th century, from the Vouga region, which extends from Serra da Lapa to the Ria de Aveiro.

1969
Foundation of the Folklore Group of the Vouga Region
On January 23, 1969, in Leão Real warehouse headquarters, on the initiative of the ethnographer José Maria Marques. It was sponsored by the Santa Marta de Portuzelo Folk Group, from Viana do Castelo.
1977
Creation of the Ethnographic Museum of the Vouga Region.
The year 1977 witnessed the creation of the Ethnographic Museum of the Vouga Region by the group, an important milestone in the preservation and promotion of local culture.
1980
First Internationalization
Our internationalization cstarted inSpain in the town of Portugalete, Basque Country. The next stop was atFrance, where we were in the towns of Chanzeaux, Parentis-en-Born and finally in Mimizan.
The 80s
Debut on television programs
In the 80s, during the Praia da Rocha National Festival, Portimão, the group had its debut on television programs on RTP, reaching a wider audience and contributing to the dissemination of folk traditions.
1986
First participation in a CIOFF festival
Group trip to Switzerland, where they participated for the first time in a CIOFF festival (International Council of Folklore and Traditional Arts Festival Organizations), high quality festivals where all groups like to be present.
1997
Accident
In 1997, a tragic accident during a tour in Belgium resulted in death of founder from the Vouga Region Folklore Group, José Maria Marques. Despite the loss, the group persevered, overcame challenges and strengthened its resilient spirit.
2009
Dances of the World event
In 2009, the Folklore Group of the Vouga Region held the event "Danças do Mundo", a remarkable occasion that contributed to the collective memory of the group.
2019
50th anniversary celebration
In 2019, the Group celebrated its 50th anniversary with several notable events. Highlights included a celebration dinner, bringing together more than 200 people, including former members and family members. The international festival "Vouga 2019" was a testament to the group's long journey.
